Man Breaks Into Brooklyn Apartment, Gets Caught Because He Left His Sock Behind

Bad night.

A drunken robber broke into a Brooklyn apartment, and ended up snitching on himself by leaving a sock behind as a gift. 23-year-old Stephen Gaughran reportedly climbed a barbed-wire fence at 3 a.m. before smashing a window on the first floor to enter the Williamsburg apartment.

Before making his grand entrance, he reportedly threatened a 25-year-old man, then fled as police approached. Police caught up with him quickly, because it's hard to miss a guy who's missing a sock. The sock was a perfect match for the one Gaughran was wearing, and he was charged with burglary, criminal trespass and attempted assault.

His shoes were never recovered.
