Star Wars fans might still be riding a high after learning that J.J. Abrams will be directing the next installment in the venerable blockbuster franchise, but a piece of information from The Hollywood Reporter might bring them back down to Earth a bit. In an article confirming the hiring of Abrams, the site snuck in a detail saying that the director hasn’t yet committed to a 2015 release for the movie.

According to the site, the release date that Disney had in mind could be changed if Abrams needs more time. And with production and press activities going on for Star Trek into Darkness until the middle of 2013, and plenty of television shows and movies on his plate to produce, we wouldn’t be shocked if Episode VII had to be pushed back to 2016. Nothing is confirmed as of yet, but fans of the franchise should keep this in mind as a distinct possibility.
