Just a few days after it was announced that James Franco would star in and direct a movie based on the life of Manson Family victim Jay Sebring, the actor revealed to MTV that he would also be tackling an adaptation of James Ellroy's novel, American Tabloid. Franco will again star in and direct the project, but he cautioned the site that, "It's not all put together yet. It's still early.”

Ellroy’s 1995 book follows the lives of three rouge law enforcement officials as their careers evolved from the late ‘50s through the mid ‘60s. Each gets tangled up in organizations like the CIA, FBI, and the mafia, which eventually culminates in their involvement in the Kennedy assassination.

Both Bruce Willis and Tom Hanks have attempted to get this project off the ground in the past in the form of either a TV miniseries or a movie, but it appears as if Franco might be the one to finally get it done. We’ll have more information on the project as it becomes available.
