Iranian scientists have launched a monkey into outer space, or at least that's what Press TV, the state-run broadcaster, is claiming.

The monkey, which scientists believe shares incredible "biological similarities" to humans, was apparently launched in a space capsule named Pishgram, or Pioneer, reports The Times.

Iran's claim has yet to be verified by sources outside Press TV, which apparently isn't uncommon, as Western outlets tend to be skeptical of technological advancements in the country.

However, in a press conference, Iran Space Agency's director Hamid Fazeli vowed to send humans to space within "the next five to eight years," and that its Sharifsat satellite will be put in orbit before the end of March.
