A former teacher at Hialeah High School in Miami-Dade County has bigger problems to worry about than finding a new job. 53-year-old Manuel Cruz has been accused of punching a 17-year-old girl who refused to have sex with him. Cruz and the girl, who is not a student at Hialeah, had a short affair before the December 2012 incident.
On Dec. 9, Cruz and the girl had sex at his apartment. She returned the next week, and the two smoked weed as Cruz downed three cups of Scotch. When she refused to have sex with him again, he struck her. After being arrested that day, he admitted to punching the girl and having sex with her a week prior. Of course, he blamed it on the alcohol.
The Miami-Dade County Public Schools have confirmed that Cruz has resigned, and he has been charged with simple assault and statutory rape.
