Wednesday's LAPD-sponsored gun buyback event was a huge success, as 2,037 firearms were turned in. That's 364 more than what was turned in at last May's buyback. According to City News Service, 901 handguns, 698 rifles, 363 shotguns and 75 assault weapons were turned in along with 2 rocket launchers.

People who turned in assault rifles were given $200 Ralph's gift cards, while those who turned in handguns rifles and shotguns were given $100 gift cards. The event was so successful that the LAPD actually ran out of gift cards. KTLA says that the budget for the event was $150,000.

Since 2009, 9,979 weapons have been exchanged as part of the program.
