Platform(s): Android, iOS

What a year Instagram has had. The app that became everyone's photo sharing service of choice (well, behind Facebook) was purchased by Facebook for more money than anyone expected. Then it expanded broke free from iOS and staked claim on Android, bringing even more users. Then it established a real web presence with an updated website that allowed users to view profiles from their browser. Then there' the app.

In version 3.0 of its mobile app, Instagram focused on new ways for users to browse their, and other user's, photos. The result was Photo Maps, a new feature that lets people display photos based on the location in which they were shot. The new app also brought infinite scrolling and faster performance.

For a product a little over two years old, it's impressive how fast and well Instagram has grown. We're excited to see what happen in 2013.
