Date: 2012

One of the biggest stories of 2012 grappled with issues that touched every person who has ever purchased a gadget. Many people don't think about where their phone, computer, or tablet comes from or how it was able to be made so quickly and priced so cheap. It all came to light when Foxconn, the company that manufacturers a host of products including the Apple iPad and iPhone, Amazon Kindle, Sony PlayStation 3, and Microsoft's XBox 360, was investigated amid reports of poor worker conditions and a string of suicides. Apple requested an audit of Foxconn factories that found workers were not sufficiently paid and were often put in harm's way. Fortunately, Apple, under the leadership of Tim Cook, has vowed to improve conditions.
