McDonald's USA Chief Operating Officer Jim Johannesen issued a memo to franchisees last month asking for restaurants to remain open during the holidays. There were 6,000 more restaurants open during Thanksgiving this year as compared to last year, which helped sales increase last month after an October dip.
This is a "big cultural shift," as a former franchisee told Crain's Chicago Business, but—along with the McRib—it could lead to more sales this month.
