Facebook Introduces Poke App

Send messages that self-destruct in seconds.

Facebook today rolled out Poke, a mobile app that re-imagines one of the first and most popular features of the social network as a messaging platform where a user can send a friend a quick message.

The app still lets users "Poke" friends in the traditional way, but now they can send messages, photos, and videos. Similar to the popular Snapchat app, the user can decide how long the message will last. The message can last for one, three, five, or 10 seconds.

Poke further represents Facebook's focus on dominating the mobile market. It joins the Messenger and Camera app in helping keep users connected to their Facebook friends when on the go while expanding the network's feature base.

Poke is available now for iOS from the Apple App Store. There's no word on when an Android version will become available.
