Christopher McQuarrie Is Being Eyed To Direct The Next "Mission Impossible"

Both Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams want him.

None

Despite having great success with last year’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, it was announced soon after the release that director Brad Bird wouldn’t be returning to the franchise for a sequel. But because Ghost Protocol generated so much money for Paramount, the studio couldn’t just let the franchise drift off into oblivion, so a new director had to be chosen. And now Deadline is reporting that Christopher McQuarrie might be the man for the gig.

Both Tom Cruise and producer J.J. Abrams are high on McQuarrie, especially after Cruise worked with him on the upcoming movie Jack Reacher. McQuarrie has also scripted a number of Cruise’s films, such as Valkyrie and Ghost Protocol. However, a final decision won't be reached until writers are hired for the film. We’ll be sure to update this story when a choice is made.
