Germany's tendency to refuse rating to any games deemed too violent—effectively banning them, as no retailer will carry an unrated game—is well-known. Now its latest victim is Painkiller Hell & Damnation, an old school PC shooter called "a fast-paced, thrilling, modern remake of an all-action shooter classic" in a recent press release.

The report claims that Painkiller was deemed "too evil for Germany," which is to say it's likely too violent to be sold there. Then again, we haven't played it yet, so maybe it really is just pure evil.

But Nordic Games and The Farm 51 released this new batch of screenshots "to remind everyone that it is, in fact, just a game and not a monster hell-bent on ruining the minds of the masses." Yeah, we'll see about that. We've got our eye on this one.

Painkiller Hell & Damnation drops on PC this Halloween for the low price of $19.99.
