Known In The '70s For: Being a chart-topping country singer

During the decade, there weren't many vocalists in country music bigger than Tammy Wynette. She scored big with multiple number-one hits including "The Wonders You Perform," "'Til I Get it Right," and "Kids Say the Darndest Things." She also cleaned up at the annual Country Music Association Awards, winning Female Vocalist of the Year a total of four times. Unfortunately, a string of medical issues and subsequent addiction to pain killers ultimate contributed to her untimely death in 1998 at the age of 55.
