Fans Start Petition to Get Betty White to Speak at the Democratic National Convention

Well, it did work for Saturday Night Live.

To counter the Republican National Convention booking legendary writer/director Clint Eastwood to speak at the event this past week, a group of Internet-savvy fans have started an online petition to get 90-year-old Betty White speak at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. White has publicly endorsed President Barack Obama in the past.

"Clint Eastwood, the Republican's "mystery guest" at the RNC, gave a bad name to older Americans everywhere with his absurd and awkward-to-watch introduction of Governor Romney," the petition, which is posted to Change.org and already has 4,584 supporters, reads. "Governor Romney can have Clint Eastwood and his improvisational skills because President Obama has the one and only Betty White!"

In 2010, White was recruited by fans to host Saturday Night Live through a similar tactic utilising social media.

Do you want to see White speak at the DNC?
