37-year-old Willie James Sauls snatched an 84-year-old woman's purse just outside of Austin, TX last September. This week, he was sentenced to 45 years behind bars. His crime is without question a terrible thing to do, but punishable by 45 years in jail? Nah, that's just extreme.
Prosecutors pushed for a longer sentence, saying Sauls has already been to prison and has failed at his chance to, well, "rehabilitate." What Sauls did was wrong and he deserves to be punished, but not by 45 years in jail. That's beyond extreme, it's just fucked up.
Don't mess with Texas, or you might spend the rest of your life behind bars.
