Chris Armstrong was the first openly gay student body president of the University of Michigan, but the state’s assistant attorney general, Andrew Shirvell, was not a fan of his accomplishment.
In 2010, Shirvell started a personal blog called “The Chris Armstong Watch,” which he used to harass Armstrong. On the blog he labeled Armstrong as a “radical homosexual activist, racist, elitist and liar.” The Internet bashing was just the beginning. Shirvell started following Armstong around campus and once randomly popped up at his home. Shirvell felt he was exercising his First Amendment rights but I don’t know how stalking fits into his claims.
Shirvell has been banned from the University of Michigan campus and was fired from the attorney general office in 2010 for misusing his workday hours. Currently unemployed, Shirvell is unsure of how he will pay the court issued judgment of $4.5 million. Don’t be mad Shirvell, UPS is hiring.
