After Billy Crystal's somewhat flat hosting gig for the 2012 Oscars turned off many viewers, The L.A. Times is reporting that comedian Jimmy Fallon is in talks to take over as the show’s emcee for next year. ABC has objected about a late-night star from a rival network hosting an award show on its broadcast, but the host is handpicked by the Motion Picture Academy, and the network does not have veto power.
The deal isn’t finalized yet, but between SNL’s Lorne Michaels producing the show and Fallon’s well-received gig headlining the 2010 Emmys on his resumé, we can see this decision being a no-brainer. Of course, something could always pop up at the last minute to derail these negotiations.
