According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel is currently in talks with James Gunn to direct the company’s Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation. Gunn is no stranger to the hero world as he was the man behind 2010’s satirical take on the genre, Super. If the deal goes through, this will be Gunn’s first big budget project and a complete change of pace for the director.
However, if the deal falls apart, the site is also reporting that Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Yes Man) and the team of Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden are also being considered for the gig. It’s a bizarre mix of potential directors, but it seems like Gunn might be tailor-made for a project like this.
Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters on August 1, 2014.
