A recent breakthrough by Seoul National University discovered glasses-free 3D movies are possible. The study was recently published in the journal Optics Express.

With glasses-free 3D devices like the Nintendo 3DS and HTC Evo 3D on the market it was only a matter of time before glasses-free 3D made its way to the big screen. Prof John Koshel from the College of Optical Sciences explains in Optics Express how glasses-free 3D movies could work: "This new method seems to be a viable one for providing glasses-free 3D environment with front-projection technology - instead of using multiple projectors, it only uses one."

No timeline on when glasses-free 3D movies will be available in your local theater but it's great knowing progress is being made.
