Discussions between director David Fincher and Sony regarding a Cleopatra remake starring Angelina Jolie have stalled, Vulture is reporting. Despite The Social Network director's excitement about the project, apparent during an interview he did with MTV last December, the studio is now seeking someone else to take on the film.

No word on why exactly Fincher dropped out of the project, but Vulture muses it could have something to do with the fact that while his last film with Sony - Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - was successful, it cost $90 million to make and only grossed about $100 million domestically.

Amongst the other possibilities for CleopatraBrokeback Mountain director Ang Lee is reportedly being considered.
