Apple's breakout hit before the iPhone and the iPad, iPods have long been relegated to the role of third wheel now that many people use their other mobile devices to play music. But that doesn't mean that Apple has given up on its iconic dedicated music player. The company has consistently said that it wants to be in the music business, and it's getting ready to recommit to that effort with an all new iPod Touch, according to a new report from Japanese technology blog Macotakara. A separate report said the iPod Nano is likely due for an upgrade, as well.

The new touch would get a larger, 4" screen and new aluminum back plate, just as has been rumored for the next generation iPod. Apple could announce all of the new devices at event this fall.
