After numerous rumors that said model Zoe Aggeliki was in negotiations to play Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Jena Malone (Sucker Punch) has been formally cast in the role. The character of Mason is pivotal in the last two installments of Suzanne Collins'Hunger Games trilogy, so expect Malone to stick around in a big way for the remainder of the film series.

According to the site, Mason is an, "...ax-wielding former Hunger Games winner from District 7, who aligns with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) in their return to the arena for an all-star death match."

The role seems much broader than the other characters in the first film, so it's probably for the best that the studio chose someone like Malone, who has more experience with these types of movies.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will hit theaters on November 22, 2013.
