Actually, if you've read the Halo novels, you'll know that Master Chief takes his armor off pretty regularly. Just not when he's expecting a Covenant attack. Which he apparently is when he goes grocery shopping.
To be fair, the employees at this grocery store must be pretty good sports. If some dude came into our office with a full-on face mask on we'd shoot him with a BB gun and call the police. If that dude was also the Master Chief we're guessing that wouldn't end well for us, but oh well.
