When Barry Gilton and Lupe Mercado discovered that their 17-year-old daughter was being pimped in North Hollywood, they tried to kill him. Let authorities tell it, they tracked down 22-year-old alleged Nutty Block Crip Calvin Sneed in late May and shot him in his car. But Sneed survived, making it to the hospital with their daughter.
Then, on June 4, someone successfully murdered Sneed. Authorities have fingered Gilton and Mercado, but they insist they're innocent, of the May shooting and the June murder.
Nevertheless, their daughter is safe in the care of relatives. Gilton and Mercado have been formally charged.
