While Nintendo may be looking to bring "core gamers" to Wii U, it sounds like Nintendo is specifically looking to grab its fair share of Call of Duty players from the Xbox 360 and PS3 crowds. Nintendo marketing exec Scott Moffitt, speaking with Gamespot, discussed drawing "core gamers" to the new platform with a unique version of the Call of Duty experience.

"You can imagine how a game like Call of Duty would work on the Wii U--the GamePad will allow you to declutter the TV and pull gaming items like maps down and not interrupt your interaction and enjoy the cinematic quality of the game on the TV."

Neither Nintendo or Activision have confirmed that a Call of Duty game is in development for the Wii U, though there have been persistent rumors that Call of Duty: Black Ops II, will make its way to the platform.

Nintendo has made it clear that it hopes the Wii U gamepad will be reason enough to get "core gamers" to switch their platform preference to Wii U from the Xbox 360 and PS3.

"The experience of playing these titles on the Xbox 360 and PS3 are relatively similar; what we showed is how you can reimagine game elements like maps and scanning features and bring them to life on the GamePad and make it a completely different experience to what it was on competing systems... The Wii U could become the preferred way to play those games for some of the core gamers."

Call of Duty may be a tough sell for Nintendo, though. Microsoft has a long-standing partnership with Activision, giving the Xbox 360 a timed exclusive on all Call of Duty DLC, a deal that remains in effect for Black Ops 2.

Would you opt to pick up Black Ops II on Wii U instead of PS3 or Xbox 360? Tell us your future console preference in the comments!
