Just a day after NBC delivered some inspired casting by hiring Mads Mikkelsen for the role of Hannibal Lecter in its upcoming TV drama Hannibal, Deadline has revealed that the network just pegged Jerry O'Connell as Herman Munster in its Munsters reboot, titled Mockingbird Lane. Both Hannibal and Mockingbird Lane are being produced by Bryan Fuller, with the pilot for Mockingbird Lane being directed by Bryan Singer.
O'Connell joins Eddie Izzard (Grandpa Munster) and Charity Wakefield (Marilyn) in the pilot as the cast is beginning to fill out. The show will revolve around a family of monsters, and their human cousin Marilyn, as they navigate their way through modern society. In the reboot, Herman works at a funeral home and begins to worry that his son's transformation into a werewolf will crush his spirits. As you may know, Fred Gwynne made the role of Herman Munster famous in the original show. O'Connell certainly has some big shoes to fill, both literally and figuratively.
