There is no doubting what a cultural phenomenon The Matrix was when it first hit theaters in 1999. Then the sequels came out and left audiences everywhere with a perpetual headache. Then the directorial duo of The Wachowski Siblings tried to win back fans by releasing the overly-stylized adaptation of Speed Racer, which wound up being one of the biggest flops in recent memory.

But the directing team is at it again with a mysterious new sci-fi project titled Jupiter Ascending. And, according to MTV, the duo has just cast Channing Tatum in the lead role.

When asked about his involvement in the movie, Tatum said, "Yes, absolutely. It's going to be a crazy action movie from the [directors] of The Matrix. They're going to reinvent the wheel as far as action goes, all over again."

The site goes on to say that Tatum will be playing an evolved bounty hunter tasked with killing Milla Kunis' character in the movie. But instead of killing her, he winds up falling in love with her. Seriously, who wouldn't?

Vulture is claiming that Kunis is playing, "A recent Russian immigrant, who is busily scrubbing toilets for a living. Unbeknownst to her, she actually possesses the same perfect genetic makeup as the Queen of the Universe and is therefore a threat to her otherwise immortal rule."

Sounds good to us. Let's hope the Wachowskis' can put out a sci-fi film with some smarts when they release Jupiter Ascending
