Three days after its Dragon spacecraft took off from Cape Canaveral, SpaceX has made history for becoming the first private company to ever dock at the International Space Station.

Earlier this morning, crew members aboard the ISS successfully plucked the Dragon from space using a robotic arm and brought it safely into the space station's docking bay.

The spacecraft performed a series of complex maneuvers, orchestrated from SpaceX's headquarters in Hawthorne, California, before berthing with the space station.

Dragon was carrying cargo to ISS in a test of a new kind of relationship between NASA and private companies like SpaceX. If all goes according to plan, SpaceX and other private companies will continue to conduct missions like these, marking a new era of post-shuttle space flight.
