After remaining rather tight-lipped since the first details leaked out last summer, Microsoft has finally raised the curtain on So.Cl, its social network marketed as a “research experience for students.”

So.Cl (pronounced “social”) delivers on Microsoft’s promise as a more niche-y experience as opposed to a general-purpose network, limiting membership to college students only. Focused on collaborative learning, users are encouraged to share searches and connect via video parties, a la Google+’s hangouts.

In fact, is designed to work in concert with other services such as Bing and Facebook—new members can even sign in immediately to So.Cl with their Facebook logins.
