After remaining rather tight-lipped since the first details leaked out last summer, Microsoft has finally raised the curtain on So.Cl, its social network marketed as a “research experience for students.”

So.Cl (pronounced “social”) delivers on Microsoft’s promise as a more niche-y experience as opposed to a general-purpose network, limiting membership to college students only. Focused on collaborative learning, users are encouraged to share searches and connect via video parties, a la Google+’s hangouts.

In fact, So.cl is designed to work in concert with other services such as Bing and Facebook—new members can even sign in immediately to So.Cl with their Facebook logins.

Check it out for yourself here.
