The man who was shot to death by Miami police after being discovered completely naked, eating another man’s face off has been identified as 31-year-old Rudy Eugene. Authorities also believe that Eugene, who may have been homeless when the gruesome attack occurred, was under the influence of an LSD-like drug widely known as “bath salts.”
Dr. Paul Adams, who works in the emergency room at Jackson Memorial Hospital, said that there’s been an increase in “bath salts” related incidents since Ultra Fest, the music festival held in Miami in March. The drug causes users body temperature to rise and makes them unusually aggressive, resorting to animalistic states of delirium.
Eugene’s last known residence was foreclosed on in 2011, and other homeless people living near the spot of the attack said he was often seen wandering around aimlessly. The identity of the victim, who’s also believed to be homeless, has not yet been released. He’s in serious condition at Jackson Memorial with a reported “seventy-five to 80 percent “of his face missing.
