Despite indications from a handful of European retailers, The Witcher series developer CD Projeckt Red says they doesn't plan to bringThe Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf (A.K.A. The Witcher 1) to consoles.

Released in 2008, CD Projeckt had planned to bring Rise of the White Wolf to PS3 and Xbox 360, but the console port was cancelled due to financial complications between the developer and prospective publisher Widescreen Games.

Now a slew of Danish retailers, including Cool Shop and Blockbuster.De, are putting up pre-order listings for Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the original Witcher game, implying the console port may be getting a second chance in the wake of The Witcher 2's success.

At the same, CD Projeckt Red has promised they'll be making a "big announcement" at their upcoming summer briefing event tomorrow. The combination of a sudden rumor and a pending announcement made the Rise of the White Wolf port seem very likely.

However, In response to rumors of the Witcher 1 console port, CD Projeckt made a call to Eurogamer, clarifying that the studio is not planning to port the game. The studio will reveal the new gun-toting RPG they've been hiring for recently at the event tomorrow

It's not all bad news for Witcher fans, though. CD Projeckt also mentioned that there would be a Witcher-related announcement coming in late 2012 or early 2013...

Will The Witcher 3 be a next-gen launch title? We're keeping our fingers crossed.
