Rumor: Wii U Launch Date Leaked

Mark November 18th on your calendars... in pencil.

None

A Japanese retailer may have outed the street-date for the Wii U in both Japan and the US.

According to Wii U Daily, an internal circular from popular Japanese game retailer Media Land says that the Nintendo's next console will hit shelves on November 18th in North America and Japan only one week later.

While November 18th seems like a plausible launch date for the console, there are a few reasons to be skeptical:

  • Nintendo traditionally consoles have been released in Japan, then North America. Not the other way around.
  • As pointed out by Kotaku, the site also falsely (or mistakenly) reported that a Rockstar "financial report" said GTA V will be coming to the Wii U 2013. (The report they likely cited came from was analyst's prediction.)
  • In general, predicting release dates based on internal information from retailers has a spotty track record at best. Dates are entered as placeholders or mistyped, which some times leads to a wild goose chase.

We're putting this one in the "maybe" pile. Do you think the rumor's legit? Let us know in the comments!
