For years it was rented as a weekly hotel for men before becoming a kosher hotel in ’40s. After a stint as a single-room-occupancy hotel in the ’60s, the building was converted into a rehab center operated by the Phoenix House in the ’70s. Only after this did the Level Club become condos. Because of its original extravagant use, the conversion was done such that each apartment would have a unique floor plan, resulting in some very interesting and sometimes cramped spaces
