Two weeks ago, F. Gary Gray's name was on a shortlist of potential directors for Captain America 2. However, now Deadline is reporting that the Italian Job director is in negotiations to get behind the camera for the NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton, at New Line Cinema.
Gray's last film was 2009's Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, which went on to gross an impressive $126 million worldwide, but failed to impress critics. There is no word on who would star in Straight Outta Compton, but Gray has connections to NWA member Ice Cube from his involvement in the Friday series, so he is undoubtedly the most capable to handle the project and should bring a serious passion to the film.
We'll have more on Straight Outta Compton as it becomes available.
