Can't wait for beloved indie auteur Wes Anderson to return to the big screen with this summer's Moonrise Kingdom? How about a small screen appetiser?

Anderson was tapped by Sony to direct the above commercial for Sony's new mobile campaign, which touts its line of Xperia phones and their compatibility with other Sony entertainment devices like TVs.

The commercial is stop-motion animated and inspired/narrated by an eight-year-old boy named Jake Ryan, so in that sense its reminiscent of Anderson's last film— the family friendly hit Fantastic Mr. Fox.

The Sony spot isn't the first ad to draw on Anderson's signature talents. Earlier this year, Hyundai recruited the director for the rollout of the 2012 Azera, and previous clients include American Express and AT&T.

Check out Anderson's latest creation and let us know what you think in the comments.
