EA has revealed that the upcoming reboot of SimCity will require an Internet connection to play.

Speaking with Joystiq, an EA representative revealed that SimCity will need to run through their Origins digital distribution platform. The game will be for sale via other digital platforms, but it will still need to run through Origin. In other words, if you were to buy the game on Steam, you'd need to have both the Steam and Origin programs open while playing.

According to lead designer Stone Librande, SimCity will also need to be online at all times for the sake of the game's multiplayer component, which includes a global economy that  players can tap into.
