Android expansion is just around the corner.

At SXSW this weekend Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom dropped a massive teaser on the captive audience, offering a brief showing of the company's upcoming Android app.

According to TechCrunch, Systrom waved around an Android phone he was carrying that had Instagram running on it, but declined to give a full walk-through just yet.

He also confirmed that even as an iOS exclusive, Instagram's growth has been remarkable. The app just passed 27 million registered users, with 67 percent of last week's users coming back to use the app again yesterday.

Systrom called it "Facebook-level engagement."

But will the Android version of Instagram be able to live up to the success of its predecessor?

“In some ways, it’s better than our iOS app," Systrom said. "It’s crazy.”
