A lot of Anonymous’ online anarchy takes the form of DDoS attacks. Simply put, Anonymous floods a site’s server until it crashes temporarily. According to security firm Symantec, though, recent DDoS attacks by the collective may have been doing a lot of self-inflicted harm.
Someone—probably from a police organization—implanted a Zeus Trojan into Slowloris, a popular DDoS program among the Anonymous crowd. The trojan, in turn, stole banking and e-mail credentials from anyone who used the program. And following the Megaupload bust, Slowloris saw an uptick in usage from hackers.
“The Man” takes this round.
