Android Market And Google Music Are Dead, Say Hello To Google Play

In a surprise shift, Google today announced that its reimagining some of its key mobile platforms as a single entity called Google Play.

Included in the new digital media hub are the Android Market and Google Music, which will cease existing as stand-alone entities. Also included in Google Play are the company's eBooks and movie rentals services.

Google is touting the new united front as a more convenient way to access its content and share it among various devices, similar to Apple's iCloud. The content previously available in the various separate services will remain unchanged.

If you have an Android phone, expect the Android Market icon to be replaced by Google Play within the next week or so. Watch a twee, weirdly abstract video about Google Play above.
