Sony today announced that longtime CEO Howard Stringer will be stepping down April 1, to be replaced by current head of Sony Computer Entertainment Kazuo Hirai.

Previously, the company had announced that Hirai would be taking over as company president, but it now confirms that he will serve as CEO as well. Former President and CEO Howard Stringer will stay with the company as Chairman of the Board.
