Google’s working on a lot of things. Software, we know. Hardware? That’s uncharted territory for the search giant. According to the New York Times, that’s about to change sometime in the near future. The company is currently designing a home entertainment device that will be initially used for streaming music throughout one’s home or office, a la Sonos.

With Google Music and the software ecosystem to support the device, it seems a logical next step for Google, especially in light of the company’s acquisition of Motorola, which would presumably manufacture the device. And unlike its previous failures with Google TV, this time the Mountain View company would have total control over its design.
