David Morrissey has been cast in the coveted role of The Governor in AMC's The Walking Dead, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Morrissey will make his debut during show's third season, which will be expanded to 16 episodes.
First appearing in issue 27 of The Walking Dead comic, The Governor is the ruthless and sadistic leader of the Woodbury, Georgia settlement of survivors. His apathetic attitude towards human life and perverse views on right and wrong made him one of the most memorable, and disturbing, characters from the comic's entire run.
During his career, Morrissey has been seen in films like The Other Boleyn Girl, Centurion, The Water Horse, and the upcoming movie Welcome to the Punch. He is also a fixture of the stage and theater.
