Pulling the coma card in a dramatic film is a classic move by screenwriters, and has been for a while. It seems that, by putting a character into a coma, the stakes are immediately raised when it comes to everything else in the plot, especially in films that revolve around love stories. Take the new Channing Tatum/Rachel MacAdams date flick The Vow, for example, in which a newlywed falls into a coma after a car accident and ends up forgetting everything about her husband, even down to his basic identity. Yeah, stakes immediately upped.

It's not just for love stories, though. Characters falling into comas can be seen in the horror pictures, action movies, thrillers, and every other genre. Though it's a clichéd plot trope, we can't help but notice that there are quite a few useful lessons that can be derived from characters' plights during and post coma. So, in honor of The Vow, we're taking a look at 10 Things Movies Have Taught Us About Comas, no matter how ridiculous. Because if it was happened in a movie, it must be true, right?
