Streaming Service Gaikai is Bringing Hardcore Games to Facebook

You'll finally have something to do besides stalking your ex's relationship statuses.

Gaikai founder David Perry—creator of Earthworm Jim and more—announced that he'll soon be bringing his game streaming service to Facebook, where you'll be able to play hardcore game demos "with just a few clicks."

"Our next big launch is on Facebook and we've been working with them for some time," Perry said yesterday at Cloud Gaming Europe. "Facebook already owns the category of casual gaming, we're going to help them own core games. A click and boom, you're playing World of Warcraft.

"Bring the game to the gamer, don't move people, move games," he added.

Head over to Gaikai's site now to play some free demos in your browser if you're skeptical—it works surprisingly well. What's not surprising, though, given the buzz around Gaikai and other, similar streaming services, Perry also predicted doom for consoles. "Why should I buy a $1000 TV and then a $500 box when all I need is a TV?" he said.

That remains to be seen. Thanks to GamesIndustry for the story. Supposing your internet is fast enough, would you ever choose streaming games over consoles, digital download or retail? Do you see yourself clicking on game demos through Facebook? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
