Stephen Amell has been cast as the Green Arrow in The CW's comic book adaptation, Arrow, according to Deadline. In this modern retelling of the Green Arrow legend, Amell will star as Oliver Queen, a millionaire politician from Star City who moonlights as a vigilante armed with a bow-and-arrow. If the show follows the DC comic books accurately, the Green Arrow will take on socially conscious causes that should appeal to the 99 percenter in all of us.
David Nutter will direct the pilot episode, which is written by the show's executive producers: Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti, and Marc Guggenheim. Amell has appeared on the CW before in The Vampire Diaries, and he also had a recurring role on the HBO show, Hung.
First appearing in More Fun Comics #73 in 1941, the Green Arrow has been a staple of the DC universe over the past seven decades. This show marks the character's second stint in live-action after Justin Hartley played him on Smallville for the last five seasons of the show. Arrow, however, will have nothing to do with the Smallville incarnation of the character.
