As 50 Cent would testify to (albeit probably reluctantly), Interscope head Jimmy Iovine ain’t nothin’ to be messed with. Just ask Monster Cables, who will no longer be producing Beats headphones.
That’s because Iovine got into a spat with Monster CEO Noel Lee over whose company deserved more credit for the success of Beats. Iovine championed his celebrity connections and marketing genius, Monster their design. If you’ve ever used a pair of Beats, you’d probably take Jimmy’s side.
Monster now has to make up for the loss of 60% of its revenue. Jimmy, on the other hand, is now free to slap a Beats logo on the highest bidder’s goods and make out like a bandit.
