FileSonic & FileServe

Shut down: Jan. 23, 2012

A few days after Megaupload became the scapegoat for illegal file sharing and officially shut down, a domino effect transpired forcing other P2P sites to shutter operations. First two on the chopping block: FileSonic and FileServe. The digital locker sites stopped users from uploading and sharing files, posting messages on their respective homepages with FileSonic stating the following: "All sharing functionality on FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally." To avoid any future ramifications with trade businesses and the authorities, both sites went offline.
