The last time we heard a peep from 2K Marin about XCOM was E3 2011, but the demo they showed last June was definitely impressive. Now IGN reveals that the game's been pushed back from its expected 2012 release to come out some time in 2013.

We were looking forward to battling the shooter's enigmatic invaders, but we'd rather play a great, delayed game and than a good on-time one. And besides, we'll still be getting Firaxis's XCOM: Enemy Unknown, 2K's other XCOM reboot, this year. Enemy Unknown will stay truer to the series' strategy roots, while XCOM in 2013 will change it up with first-person shooting.
