Why you should be excited: Call it the Bridesmaids effect, if you will, but this year’s comedy highpoints at Sundance were predominantly female-anchored. Example: For A Good Time, Call…, co-written by Lauren Miller, a.k.a. Seth Rogen’s wife. Miller and criminally underused scene-stealer Ari Graynor (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist) play a couple of down-on-their-luck cuties who resort to becoming phone sex operators in order to earn some money.

It’s a simple, provocative set-up, one that seems right in the potty-mouthed wheelhouse of someone who’s funny enough to go toe-to-toe with Rogen in real life. Between Miller’s domestic connections and Graynor’s bubbling stardom, For A Good Time, Call… has all the right chips in place.
