There isn’t much more to say about the anticipation leading up to The Dark Knight Rises. Coming off the heels of one of the biggest blockbusters ever, 2008’s The Dark Knight, the last installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy might be one of the most anticipated movies of all time.

The latest trailer for the flick serves to only heighten that level of hype, but it also carries with it a long list of mysteries. How did Bane gather such an expansive army? Will Batman have his back broken in this movie just like in the comics? And who exactly is Catwoman working for? All of these questions will undoubtedly be answered in the final movie, but thankfully the trailer doesn’t reveal too much.

As usual, Nolan’s scope here is absolutely epic. We see a city in peril and a villain that seemingly can’t be stopped. Even though not much is actually shown of Tom Hardy as Bane, what little we do see is very intriguing. It will be tough to top what Heath Ledger did as the Joker, but Hardy stands a very good chance at pulling it off.

It’s both a testament and a detriment to Nolan that he can create such a great trailer without even really showing too much of the Caped Crusader himself. Some comic book fans may argue that Batman was pushed aside too much in The Dark Knight, and his role in The Dark Knight Rises looks no different; however, with such a plethora of cinematic talent attached to it, The Dark Knight Rises looks like it will succeed despite ruffling the feathers of some fanboys.

We have no choice but to wait patiently for The Dark Knight Rises to drop in theaters on July 20, 2012, but until then, this trailer will certainty be replayed ad nauseum.
